How we're funded

Home Fix Reference earns revenue from four sources:

1. Display advertising. We show ads on some pages through advertising networks — currently Google AdSense, later Mediavine at scale. Ad revenue lets us keep the Site free.
2. Retailer affiliate commissions. When you click a product link on our Site and buy at the retailer, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you.
3. Contractor referral leads. On cost guides and project pages, you can request quotes from local pros through partners like Angi Leads, Thumbtack, and Networx. We're paid a per-lead referral fee.
4. Reader-purchased products. Downloadable checklists, planners, and (later) subscriber-only content sold directly.

We are not funded by paid coverage, sponsored fix pages, or any single retailer or manufacturer paying for editorial placement.

Affiliate programs we participate in

Currently active or planned affiliate relationships:

• Amazon Services LLC Associates Program — an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
• Home Depot Affiliate Program (via Impact.com) — commissions on qualifying purchases at homedepot.com.
• Lowe's Affiliate Program (via Rakuten or Impact.com) — commissions on qualifying purchases at lowes.com.
• Wayfair Affiliate Program (via CJ Affiliate) — commissions on qualifying purchases at wayfair.com, for select home materials.

Affiliate links are marked in-content where required (for example, "buy links go to Home Depot"). Prices you see are the same as if you went to the retailer directly.

Contractor referral networks

On selected cost guides and project pages, we may embed lead-capture forms from contractor referral networks including Angi Leads, Thumbtack, Networx, and HomeAdvisor Pro. When you submit your contact info to request quotes, the network sends your request to their vetted local pros, and we receive a per-lead referral fee.

Two things worth knowing:

• We do not run our own contractor network. We refer to the major networks and let them do the vetting.
• We do not require you to use a referral form to see cost information. Cost data is fully visible on the page before any lead form.

Display advertising

Display ads appear on some pages of the Site. These ads are served by third-party ad networks:

• Google AdSense — during our early growth phase (approximately Months 3–5)
• Mediavine — once we cross Mediavine's session threshold (approximately Month 5–6 onward)

Ad networks may use cookies to serve relevance-targeted ads. See our Cookie Policy for details and opt-out options.

Emergency protocol pages are non-monetized. Pages for gas leak response, CO alarm response, electrical fire response, and burst pipe response show no ads and contain no affiliate links. These pages exist to help you in a crisis — nothing else.

Sponsored content policy

We do not currently publish sponsored content or paid product placements. If we do in the future, sponsored content will:

• Be clearly labeled at the top of the page as "Sponsored" or "In partnership with [Sponsor]"
• Never appear on fix guides, safety pages, or emergency protocol pages
• Be limited to lifestyle content (kitchen design ideas, tool round-ups, seasonal buying guides) where sponsorship does not create a safety-relevant conflict

Sponsors have no editorial input into non-sponsored content, no early access to reviews, and no ability to pay us to remove critical coverage.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team makes recommendations on the merits of the product, project, or advice — not on affiliate commission rates or advertiser preferences. To keep the incentives clean:

• Cost guides show honest national averages and regional ranges. If the honest answer is "prices vary a lot" — that's what we say.
• Product recommendations are made based on our editorial team's assessment of quality, availability, and value. Higher-commission products are not preferred over lower-commission alternatives that better serve the reader.
• Advertisers do not review content before publication and have no influence over what we cover or how we cover it.
• Contractor review is paid on a flat per-page basis, unrelated to any revenue those pages generate.

If we ever fail to live up to this — publish a recommendation shaped by revenue rather than reader interest — please tell us via the correction policy. We take this seriously.

Your choices

You do not have to click affiliate links or use referral forms. All of the reference content on Home Fix Reference — fix guides, project guides, cost data, calculators, safety information — is fully accessible whether or not you interact with any monetization element.

If you'd like to support the site without seeing ads, look for our newsletter subscription and downloadable products, which are our reader-supported revenue channels.
