How to report a correction
Found an error, an outdated reference, or safety guidance that doesn't match current code? Please tell us. The fastest ways to report:
- Email: corrections@homefixreference.com — please include the page URL and a specific description of what's wrong.
- Contact form: Our contact page has a form that routes correction requests to the right editor.
Corrections that affect safety guidance are marked urgent and reviewed within 24 hours. Corrections about cost data, product recommendations, or general accuracy are reviewed within one week.
When submitting, please include:
- The URL of the page with the error
- The specific paragraph, sentence, or claim that is wrong
- The correct information, if you have it
- A citation to a source (code section, manufacturer spec, published research) if applicable
- Your relationship to the topic (homeowner, licensed contractor, code official, product manufacturer, or general reader)
How we handle corrections
Every correction submission is reviewed by an editor. Depending on the nature of the correction, one of the following happens:
- Safety-relevant correction: The page is either updated or temporarily taken offline within 24 hours pending review. If contractor review is required, we prioritize the batch.
- Factual correction: The change is made within one week. Material corrections (not just typo fixes) generate a note in the page's revision history.
- Difference of opinion: Some fixes have more than one valid approach. Where a correction represents a legitimate alternative rather than a factual error, we may add the alternative as a variant rather than replacing the original.
- Not a correction: Occasionally submissions turn out to be based on a misunderstanding of the page. We reply with an explanation and thank the reader for looking closely.
We always reply. Even if the correction turns out to be a difference of opinion or a misread, you get a response.
Feedback from professionals in the trades
If you are a licensed electrician, plumber, general contractor, HVAC technician, roofer, code official, or product engineer — your feedback is especially valuable to us. Please identify yourself and your specialty in the correction email.
Corrections from credentialed professionals receive faster review turnaround and are more likely to trigger a full page revision rather than a spot fix. If your correction is applied, we credit you by name on the revision log (with your permission).

Revision history
Every substantive page revision is tracked. Small edits and typo fixes don't reset the "Last verified" date. Material changes — a corrected diagnostic step, an updated code reference, a revised cost range — do reset the date and are noted in the page footer where relevant.
Historical revisions are available on request via editorial@homefixreference.com.
When we get it wrong
If we publish something incorrect — especially something safety-relevant — we own it. Our process:
- Fix the page immediately, or take it offline if the fix requires reviewer input.
- Note the correction visibly on the page.
- If the error was published to the newsletter, publish a correction in the next issue.
- Review our editorial process to understand how the error passed our review layers.
We do not silently edit content when we get something materially wrong. Trust survives corrections; it does not survive quiet edits.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Every correction submission gets a reply, even if the answer is that we don't think the change is warranted. We explain why, and we thank you for looking closely.
Not currently. We do publicly credit correction contributors (with permission) on the revision log for material corrections that are applied.
Yes — email editorial@homefixreference.com with the URL and your reasoning. Rewrite requests aren't guaranteed but are seriously considered, especially from professionals in the trades.
